Coronavirus prevention: How to make your own hydroalcoholic gel / hand sanitizer gel ?
Apparently they are sold out / out of stock everywhere ...
Hydroalcoholic solutions are recommended for eliminating bacteria and viruses, especially during epidemics such as the flu or Covid-19.
Here is the recipe for making your own hydroalcoholic solution, but use it with some precautions.
In case of shortage, or simply to save money, you can follow the recipe of the World Health Organization (WHO) and make your own hydroalcoholic solution. Primarily intended for pharmacy professionals, it is however quite simple to apply at home.
Making your hydroalcoholic gel: the basic ingredients
Here are the quantities to obtain one liter of hydroalcoholic solution:

Here are the quantities to obtain one liter of hydroalcoholic solution:
- 3.5 cups / 833 ml / 28.16 fl oz of alcohol (ethanol 96% or isopropanol 99.8%);
- 3 tbsp / 41,7 ml / 1.41 fl oz of hydrogen peroxide (3% hydrogen peroxide);
- 1 tbsp / 14,5 ml / 0.49 fl oz of glycerin (98% glycerol)*;
- distilled or boiled water to complete.
*Note: you can replace the glycerin with vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel and add some essential oils for the scent

1 / Pour the amount of alcohol (96% ethanol or 99.8% isopropanol) necessary for the preparation of the product in the bottle, tank or container used for mixing.
2 / Add hydrogen peroxide (3% hydrogen peroxide).
3 / Add the glycerin (glycerol 98%).
4 / Add distilled water or cooled boiled water
5 / In order to avoid any evaporation, quickly close the container using the cap.
6 / Mix the preparation by gently shaking the container.
7 / Place the filled bottle in quarantine for 72 hours, time allowing the destruction of bacterial spores potentially present in the alcohol or in the bottle (new or reused).
8 / Label the bottle:
The labeling of the bottle must comply with national regulations and must include the following information:
2 / Add hydrogen peroxide (3% hydrogen peroxide).
3 / Add the glycerin (glycerol 98%).

• Avoid contact with the eyes,
• Keep out of reach of children,
• Date of manufacture and batch number,
• Directions for use: Fill the palm of one hand with the solution and rub all the surfaces of the hands until the skin is dry.
• Composition: ethanol or isopropanol, glycerol and hydrogen peroxide.
• Flammable liquid: keep away from heat and any flame.
